Around Scarborough

Confession: Even though we did go to Scarborough for a visit this year, these photos are over two years old now. I am perpetually playing catch up with photos on this blog. These photos are again from the batch I developed myself and have the signs to show it but I still love them. Scarborough is so iconic that even some bubbles and streaks couldn’t dampen my enthusiasm for it.

These photos were taken with Silberra U200 film in my quest to find a black and white film to love as much as I loved Kodak’s BW400CN film. I feel like the type of black and white film I want now is perhaps different to how it was before. I like the softness and subtle contrasts of these photos a lot and I look forward to trying more Silberra films.

one year ago

These photos were taken around a year ago just before the first lockdown in March 2020. It seems that on one hand, the year has flown by and I can’t quite believe that its been a whole year. Yet on the other - after March 2020, the days seemed to have dragggged and dragggged.

Oblivious to year ahead, I took these photos on a little day out trip to Knaresborough. I often wonder if we would have done things differently if we did know what was actually going to happen - but in honestly, I think I would have just bought more of the lovely gf/df cakes we had at Number 13 cafe and Thomas more treats from the bakery ha.

Its hard to know what to write really that sums up how weird and hard the last 12 months have been. Its challenged us all in ways I’m sure no one imagined - and like any significant event - its shown peoples true colours in ways that have either pleased or surprised us.

Wishing trees

The first time I ever saw a wishing tree was at Ingleton waterfalls - which I shared here on my blog years and year ago in 2009. I didn’t know that wishing trees were a tradition then but having had a quick Google, I now know that its thought to be from the 18th century, where people would put a coin in a tree to rid themselves of illness.

I’m totally fascinated with them and I wonder many things whilst looking at them - who put the coin there, how old is the coin, how old is the tree, how much money is in trees?! And now after my CFS diagnosis I’m also wondering how many coins I would have to put in a tree to rid myself of it haha!
