Guest post: Clare

Hi everyone, I’m Clare and I blog at A Wee Bit of Cake where you guessed it, it’s all about my love of cake!

I’ve known Rhianne for almost 10 years now. We met on our first day at uni (we did the same course) and have been friends ever since. No matter what the past 10 years has thrown at us our friendship has continued to flourish and now she’s going to be one of my bridesmaids at my wedding next year.

I was going to do a post all about cakey stuff but now I’ve started writing about our friendship, maybe that’s the route this post needs to follow.

I was there at the start when Rhianne started to delve into film photography and bought her first Holga camera. I remember sitting across from her in Yo Sushi when she first told me she had set up the blog and never did I imagine it would take her on such a journey, both emotionally and physically. She loves cameras (you should see her house) and gets the same thrill from developing photos as I do from making a cake – you have the skills and ingredients, you just have to hope when it comes out of the oven /photo lab that the results are a success.

I’ve been there as she fought with her Diana Mini to get the photos to work, she’s been there to see my cake skills develop and if anything, it’s reading For The Easily Distracted that got me interested in blogging and made me decide to set up my own wee corner of the baking world.

Anyway, enough of my rambles! Rhianne will probably kill me for this but here are a few photos from over the years. She’s probably also going to have a little cry now, she’s the emotional one of the two of us and calms down my fiery Irishness!

{  Masquerade Ball (2006), Graduation – ready to take on the world! (2008), Random trip to Belfast (2008), One of the first cakes I ever made Rhianne, I cringe now when I look at it! (2010), Bridesmaids at GeeGee’s wedding  (2014)  }

Enjoy Portugal Rhianne, wish I could have a week in the sun!

Blog every day in May with Rosalilium

I rather impulsively signed up to Elizabeth's at Rosalilium's Blog every day in May project this morning in an attempt to push my blog boundaries... I've found it really easy to slip into sharing photos and only photos... so lets hope this pushes me to share more.  Check out the BEDM calendar here!

  • I've recently started doing yoga everyday and its one of the best things I've done for myself lately.

  • Though I do hate that I have to get up earlier, but not as much as I love the yoga...

  • I'm currently addicted to browsing Society6 - there are so many talented people on there (check out my favourites!)

  • I haven't taken any film photos for a while and its making me a bit sad.

  • I really love my blog, but I'm not 100% sure I love 'blogging' at the moment... lets hope this helps.

p.s. I realised after reading some of everyones posts that I haven't actually introduced myself properly, so here's a little more: My name is Rhianne, I've been blogging for 4 years now and I mostly share my film photos. My favourite colour is mustard yellow.

a bit of random...

It's my birthday today so I left this post unscheduled in the hopes I'd have something inspirational hit me in terms of writing... but I didn't hahaha. This time last year my besties hijacked my blog, and really, I wasn't going to beat that post was I...

So instead I'm going to write a little list (I do love a good list, thanks Esther!). Next week we're going on our jollies to Whitby  and here are a few things I'm excited about:

  1. seeing my parents!

  2. playing with my new little pocketcam birthday present and making adorable videos.

  3. walks on the beach.

  4. the potentially amazing weather (everyone cross your fingers that the 10 day forecasts are correct!)

  5. spending some time crocheting in the evenings, I am making the most amazing thing ever at the moment, it needs some love and I can't wait.

  6. taking lots of photos.

  7. going on a steam train.

  8. walking on the beach (I said that I know, but I'm really looking forward to it!)

  9. exploring Whitby

  10. having an ensuite bathroom

  11. having a little time away from everything (sometimes you just need that...)

So there we go. Have a great day! I'm off to see LomoKev later in Leeds today which I am pretty excited about. (If you're there too, I'll be in the stripey black and grey dress, come say hi!)

p.s. Also, Jasmine and Alyssa are awesome, lovely, friendly, amazing and all round good eggs, thanks girls!

This past weekend...

Was relaxing, hurray!
I finally got my hair cut short, bought some more wool and consequently finished my first ever set of crochet granny squares (I'm hooked, ha), I even started connecting them together too, its awesome.
I also finally found clothing with birds on (it's a cute skirt and it was in a charity shop!) and I took my new double dip plastic camera by James Butler out for a spin and met a new cat friend in the process.
Hurray for relaxing weekends!
p.s. If you're interested in learning crochet (I only started a couple of weeks ago) this post by Alycia is a great starting point, it gave me the kick up the butt I needed to actually make something rather than talk about it, thanks Alycia!!
p.p.s. Nanna, I might take you up on those knitting lessons now :)
