More St Abb's Head

More photos from the beautiful St Abb's Head but this time taken with my Zenit B - I'm still a little nervous using this camera as I always seem to slightly over expose the photos, but luckily these don't seem too bad overall.  

The camera my Dad's holding is actually my brother in laws, but he looked pretty cool holding it I thought so I snapped a photo :) Also, look how high Harry's tail is, it was like that all week, he loved our adventures!

Fountains Hall

First, I apologise now for the overload of photos, but I got a little carried away taking photos of this beautiful building.

These photos are a mixture of LC-A and Zenit-B photos, you can really see the difference a light meter makes I think and also the effect that over exposing has on the Lomography 400 iso film - again some of the photos have a distinctively orange tinge to them but even sat next to the auto exposed LC-A photos, I still really like them.  You can also really see the texture that the Zenit B gives photos when you compare the two cameras, I still haven't figured out exactly what does this but I think its the shutter fabric...

Is it weird that this building took my breath away a little? I think this photo above really captures how grand and striking it looked in the sunshine.

Fountains Hall dates from around 1600 and is built partly with stone from the Abbey ruins. Although only a couple of rooms were open to the public, it was definitely worth a look around.

Lovely, lovely light

{Can you spot the slightly blurry Nuthatch in the photo above? It was really going for that tree...}

I can't tell you how happy I am that its finally getting lighter and brighter in the UK and judging by my recent photos, I'm obviously trying to capture as much of that sunshine as I can.

These were taken around Fountains Abbey and I think I enjoyed looking for the little details around the grounds as much as I enjoyed walking around the abbey.

Experimenting with F Stops...

I actually don't remember the last time I was this excited about my photos... squeeeeeeee!!

Although Photo Meditations isn't a technical photography course, I did learn something new about F stops and I realised that I had actually taken some photos with my Ricoh camera where I had changed this setting and not realised the effect it would have (here and here, being good examples) At the time of developing them I realised that they were the kind of photos that I wanted to be taking... but I didn't know how I'd even done it.

So armed with knowledge, my new to me Olympus Trip and more enthusiasm than I've ever had on a foggy day, Thomas and I went for a walk around Kirkstall Abbey (and also a delicious roast dinner...) last Sunday and here are some of my favourite results.

I was drawn to that yellow tree like a magpie to shiny things, it was a beacon in the mist and so pretty. I had to have a photo taken with it... I'm a bit sad that it's a little blurry but a lot of the photos were as I still have lots to learn.

I'm so glad that I learnt this though, most of my plastic cameras don't have this setting but two of my other film others do and it feels great to know now that I can take the type of photos that I want with a different camera and not feel limited by my equipment or knowledge.

In this one film of photos, I feel like I've pushed myself, my photos and what I can do. I've applied everything I'd already learnt combined it with new tricks and techniques and captured photos that I have been truly happy with. Although this does mean I'll be carrying even more cameras around with me now...
